Why we started GermanyStudentDesk
Every year, thousands of international students receive their German admission letters — and then hit a wall of unfamiliar terms: GKV, PKV, M10, Versicherungsbescheinigung. Getting one of these wrong can delay a visa, block a university enrollment, or leave a student with the wrong coverage for years.
We are §34d GewO licensed insurance advisors living in Germany, and for more than five years we have specialized in exactly this niche: health insurance for international students. We've seen the process from every angle — the visa office's requirements, the university's enrollment rules, and the insurers' paperwork — and we translate all of it into clear, honest advice.
Unlike broad relocation platforms, we don't try to sell you everything. Our desk covers one topic, and covers it properly: your student health insurance, from the first consultation to the last document in your visa file.
How we work
Advice first, paperwork second. We start every case with a real consultation — your age, your program (degree, language course, preparatory studies, PhD), your timeline and your budget — before recommending public or private coverage. Once you decide, we take over the contracting, manage the M10 electronic reporting to your university, resolve any issues with insurers directly, and make sure your Versicherungsbescheinigung and related confirmations reach you in time.
Because insurance files contain sensitive personal data, all data transfer between you, insurers and institutions is handled in compliance with the GDPR — securely, transparently, and only with your consent.
